This self-guided scavenger hunt threads through Minneapolis’ University District, where 19th-century academic buildings meet the Mississippi’s working banks. Expect questions keyed to plaques, photo challenges that coax you into public art and study nooks, and trivia tied to campus lore and architecture. The campus itself is glacial in origin: rolling moraines and river terraces shape the walkable ridges, while stately quads and modern galleries tell a history of expansion from a territorial college to a major research university.
Culturally, the hunt leans playful—group roles, timed prompts, and points for creative photos invite competition and collaboration. Locals know the best stops: overlook benches facing the river, small sculpture gardens, and underused courtyards that make good photo backdrops.
Practically, the experience is light exercise and urban navigation rather than backcountry travel. Plan 1.5–2 hours, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a fully charged smartphone with the Let’s Roam app installed. Public transit and campus buses drop you close to start points; there’s no guide, so allow extra time for traffic, crowds, and campus events.
Hydrate between challenges, respect posted campus rules, and keep an eye on battery life—this is an app-first adventure where your device is the map, timer, and scorekeeper.

The University of Minnesota dates to the mid-19th century and its Northrop Mall and surrounding buildings reflect successive architectural eras as the campus grew into a major research institution.
Keep to paved paths and designated green areas, pack out waste, and avoid disturbing planted beds—high foot traffic on campus ecosystems benefits from low-impact behavior.
