Discover UNF Eco Adventure in Jacksonville, Florida—offering free gear rentals, scenic trails, and a unique alpine tower challenge for an unforgettable outdoor escape.
Located within the expansive natural grounds of the University of North Florida, UNF Eco Adventure offers an immersive outdoor experience uniquely tailored to students and local outdoor enthusiasts. Situated in Jacksonville, Florida, this 385-acre environmental playground features a blend of rugged hiking trails, quiet paddling spots, and challenging alpine tower courses set amid lush, wooded areas. Visitors can take advantage of free gear rentals—ranging from camping equipment to kayaks—making it one of the most accessible and versatile outdoor programs in the region.
The reserve’s diverse trail network winds through a variety of habitats filled with native plants, vibrant birdlife, and small reptiles like lizards and insects that add richness to each hike or paddle. One standout feature is the Odyssey 3 alpine tower challenge course, the only one of its kind located in a forest setting rather than an open field or urban park. This tower offers an exhilarating opportunity for team-building and personal challenge in a natural environment.
In addition to physical activities, the area encourages environmental connection and education by fostering sustainable use of its resources. The nearby St. Johns River and surrounding wetlands contribute waterway access for kayakers and paddlers aiming to explore local aquatic ecosystems.
Parking is affordable and convenient, and the area is open around the clock, providing flexibility for early risers and night owls alike. Whether you’re a student looking to unwind amidst nature, seeking a unique team-building exercise, or simply interested in exploring Jacksonville’s outdoor spaces, UNF Eco Adventure stands out as a premier choice. Its blend of accessibility, natural beauty, and diverse activity options combines to create a dynamic experience unmatched by many local outdoor adventure destinations.
