Portland, Victoria, known for its rugged coastline and steady surf breaks, is an ideal seaside escape for families seeking an introduction to ocean adventure. The Kids Holiday Program - Portland INTENSIVE by Go Surf School offers a focused, one-day beginner surf experience tailored specifically for children aged 5 to 14. Located right on the beaches of Port Fairy, a nearby historic fishing town, this program combines hands-on coaching with safety education and beachside fun to create a memorable day by the sea.

The program embraces the essence of Portland’s coastal environment, presenting young participants with manageable waves perfect for learning. The region’s basalt cliffs and sandy beaches provide a vivid backdrop, giving kids a glimpse of Victoria’s unique maritime geography while they catch their first rides. Portland’s cooler southern ocean swell makes it a suitable introduction point for first-timers looking to build wave confidence in a safe and structured setting.

What sets this intensive apart is its expert guidance focused on ocean safety—critical when introducing children to the dynamic marine environment. Each child gains personalized coaching that helps them master paddling techniques, standing up on the board, and reading the waves. Beyond surfing skills, kids engage in beach games and educational activities that promote respect for the ocean and enhance water awareness.

This program is a standout in the Portland area because it combines the thrill of surfing with comprehensive safety instruction, making it a trusted choice for parents. Offering all necessary gear, including soft-top surfboards and wetsuits appropriate for the cool waters of southern Australia, the school ensures comfort and protection throughout the day. The location’s accessibility from Port Fairy, a town rich with historical charm dating back to the 19th century whaling era, provides families with plenty of off-water exploration options.

Whether your child dreams of standing on a surfboard for the first time or just wants to spend an active day outdoors, the Portland INTENSIVE program delivers an ideal gateway to the ocean’s excitement while fostering lifelong skills and ocean stewardship. For families visiting Victoria’s southwest coast, this surf school experience holds a special place among local outdoor activities, offering safety, fun, and connection to nature in one compelling package.
