You step out of an air-conditioned van into a humid Balinese morning and the sound of distant temple bells threads through the rice paddies. The guide points up a slope and, for a moment, the world narrows to the green lines of terraces cupped by the valley and a wooden swing hanging above them—an instant designed for a photograph but felt in the stomach as a breath of altitude and exposure.
