The engine clicks to life and mud sprays from the wheels as riders head out from an open pit near Ubud, the air humid with rice-field steam and motor oil. The trail threads between terraces and stands of palms, drops into a canyon where a river dares you to slow down, then climbs toward a cliff-side photo point above a narrow waterfall. In two hours the landscape changes enough to feel like several short trips at once.
