The morning opens with warm air and the scent of wet earth as riders line up at the edge of a rice field. Engines hum; a 250cc quad rumbles to life and the countryside pushes forward—mud sprays, palms bend in the breeze, and a carved gorilla face in limestone waits like a gate to a different rhythm.

Tegallalang’s terraces reflect Bali’s centuries-old subak irrigation tradition—community-managed water systems that shaped rice agriculture and local ritual life.
High visitor numbers and off-trail riding can erode terrace edges; follow guides, avoid litter, and respect farmers working the fields to reduce impact.
