You arrive before dawn after a three-hour drive from Can Tho; mist lifts off ribbon canals and the air smells faintly of wet peat and banana leaves. A narrow wooden boat parts a green skin of duckweed and water lettuce, revealing kingfishers that flash like coins and purple swamphens slipping through reeds.
