You step out of the car at Artuch as high wind tugs at your jacket and the Fann Mountains loom like folded steel around you. Morning light skims glacial bowls; a river below seems to dare you to follow it higher. The first day’s trail climbs through tussock meadows and scattered juniper to Chukurak Lake (≈3,000 m), a glassy bowl that holds the sky.
