Dust rises on the red track as the crew drives away from Maun; out of the flat expanse the Tsodilo rock plates appear like islands of stone, abrupt and weathered. Walkers step onto cool rock faces covered in hand-sized paintings—panels the San people have added to for thousands of years—while the wind pushes across wide salt pans and the night brings the distant murmur of campfires.
moderate.

Able to walk 2–4 hours per day on uneven terrain, handle short scrambles and basic cave passages; good mobility recommended.
The tour is rated moderate: most days feature 2–4 hours of walking on uneven rock and one day of basic rock scrambling; it’s suitable for reasonably fit travelers.
Most breakfasts, lunches and dinners are included after day one; the first night’s B&B in Maun is at your own expense and several nights are spent at simple campsites.
No—touching or applying anything to rock paintings is prohibited to protect ancient pigments; follow your guide’s instructions at all times.
Not recommended for travelers with serious heart, spinal conditions, or pregnant guests; bring any prescriptions, insect repellent, and expect basic medical support from guides.
Tsodilo Hills holds more than 4,500 rock paintings and has been a spiritual and habitation site for hunter-gatherers for millennia; it was inscribed as a UNESCO site in 2001.
Visitors are urged to stay on paths, avoid touching paintings, take all waste with them, and support local guides who steward these fragile cultural landscapes.
