You step off the black-sand shore and the sea takes the weight of the day—warm, quiet, and only a few fin kicks from steel ribs that now host a living reef. Visibility often stretches wide; the Liberty lies sideways close to shore, its contours softened by staghorn and plate corals while schools of damselfish and fusiliers move like living currents around the hull.

Tulamben is about a 2–3 hour drive from South Bali (Kuta/Denpasar) depending on traffic and your exact pick-up location.
In the dry season visibility can reach 15–30 meters; water temperatures usually range 26–29°C (79–84°F), with cooler thermoclines possible deeper around the wreck.
The USAT Liberty was torpedoed in WWII, beached at Tulamben, then later shifted into shallow water where coral colonized the wreck and created one of Bali’s most famous dive sites.
