Discover the wonders of nature with the "Trees of Brooklyn Bridge Park" program for young learners. Students engage in hands-on exploration, using field guides to identify diverse tree species while applying scientific tools to estimate tree age and size. This unique experience combines outdoor adventure with essential learning standards.
Brooklyn Bridge Park's Education Program serves over 10,000 students a year. We use the Park as a living laboratory for hands-on investigation, incorporating inquiry-based learning into lessons that meet Common Core, NYC and NYS learning standards.
TREES OF BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK (GRADES PREK-3) Learn basic tree anatomy and use age-appropriate field guides to explore and identify the diverse tree species in the park. Students use observation and scientific tools to estimate tree age, diameter, and circumference.

Layer clothing and bring hats and gloves since the program includes outdoor time in winter conditions.
The program starts promptly and lasts about 60 minutes; late arrivals may miss key activities.
Using magnifiers helps young students examine bark texture and leaves more closely for identification.
Terrain is flat and child-friendly but include comfortable, waterproof footwear for wet or icy patches.
