Full description

We will meet in one of the most enchanting squares in Italy, Piazza Santa Maria Novella, which is home to the stunning Basilica of the same name. Here under the shadow of the oldest facade in the city, your guide will introduce you to the stories and characters of Florence. We will then head to the Duomo, unquestionably the most famous landmark in Tuscany, where we’ll talk about the mammoth effort it took to build this spectacular cathedral (the fourth largest in Europe). Our next stop is Signoria Square, where the political volatility of Florence is best encapsulated by the piazza’s array of statues, including Michelangelo’s iconic David (now a replica, the original is kept in the nearby Accademia art gallery). As we continue our walk towards the River Arno, we’ll pass beautiful Renaissance palaces before ending up at the Ponte Vecchio. Round the corner, we’ll visit one of our favourite local bakeries for some Florentine sweet treats. Next we’ll explore the Medieval and Santa Croce districts, gazing up at the architecture as your guide gives you the inside scoop on the lives of the famous residents, bankers and merchants who once roamed these streets. Finally, we’ll head east to the Sant’Ambrogio district to explore the local’s favourite food market and chat with local stall holders learning about some local products. An introduction to Florence is not complete without trying a glass of wine from one of the many famous terras that surround us, so together, we will taste some delicious treats and raise our glasses to Florence, the pinnacle of Italian culture. Salute!
