Operated by Alpine Helicopters CH · Sion, Valais
Sion, located in the heart of Switzerland’s Valais region, serves as a gateway to some of the Alps’ most dramatic winter landscapes. From this alpine city, Alpine Helicopters CH offers the public an unforgettable winter helicopter tour over the Matterhorn, one of the most iconic peaks in the world. This 30 to 35-minute flight reaches nearly 4,000 meters, placing passengers above snow-clad summits and rugged glaciers that define the region’s breathtaking high mountain terrain.
The helicopter tour takes off from Sion, winding through the silent winter air with sweeping views of jagged peaks like Mont-Rose and Weisshorn which rise sharply from valleys below. The glaciers appear as vast white rivers, carved by centuries of freeze and thaw, offering an otherworldly contrast to the dark rocky ridges. The Matterhorn’s pyramidal silhouette commands attention, a striking geological feature sculpted by ice age forces. Amidst this high alpine setting, the exhilaration of altitude blends seamlessly with the serene, pristine environment.
Alpine Helicopters CH enriches the local outdoor recreation scene by making these typically inaccessible alpine terrains accessible in safety and comfort. For adventurers who want to see the Swiss Alps in a way no trail could provide, this helicopter tour presents a rare opportunity: to witness winter’s alpine grandeur from the sky with unparalleled clarity and perspective.
Beyond the views, the experience connects travelers to Valais’s rich mountaineering culture and history, where these peaks have inspired climbers and explorers for over a century. Alpine Helicopters CH has carved out a unique niche offering modern aerial access to this ancient mountain world.
