The boat slips away from Copacabana at midday and the high plain opens like a cold ocean; wind tugs at hats and the lake itself seems to push travelers toward the stepped shoreline of Isla del Sol. On arrival, stone stairways hewn by Andean hands climb sun-baked terraces, and a small spring — the so-called Fountain of Eternal Youth — bubbles as if insisting you pause.
