Embark on a unique culinary journey through Portimão and Ferragudo, exploring the artisanal revival of canned sardines at Conserveira do Arade. Enjoy a scenic stroll in Ferragudo, witness local fishermen at work, and delve into the canning industry at the Portimão Museum, culminating in a delightful tapas tasting experience.
Come and discover the legacy of the Can Industry in the city of Portimão and fishing village of Ferragudo.
We will start the tour by visiting Conserveira do Arade, a former can industry that revived the canned sardines with an artisanal process, using glass jars and no longer in cans, and with an innovative twist of flavours. After visiting the fabric and understanding the production process, you will savour some preserved sardines, tuna and mackerel.
We will visit, then the charming village of Ferragudo with the fishermen working on the nets by the river, and a beautiful viewpoint to the Arade river.
The tour continues in the neighbour city of Portimão, in the other side of the river, for a visit to the exhibition on the canning industry at the Portimão Museum, which was actually built in an old canning factory, next to the dock where the fish was unloaded.
And we will finish in great style, tasting delicious tapas made using tinned fish, in the gourmet shop and restaurant Maria do Mar.
