You step out of a Rio hotel into humid air and are driven up to Alto da Boa Vista, where the city thins into the green bulk of Tijuca National Park. The trail at the park entrance threads between towering trunks, the sound of water drawing you toward Taunay Waterfall; sunlight slices through the canopy in sudden bright bands. Higher up, Proa rock commands views across Barra da Tijuca and Pedra da Gávea—city and mountain locked in plain sight.
