Conservation
Beaches are fragile: pack out waste, avoid trampling dune vegetation, and respect wildlife; smaller lesson groups minimize shoreline impact.

Arrive early to check in
Get to the Tofino Surf School meeting point at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start to complete waivers and get fitted for a wetsuit.
Wear a warm base layer
Even in summer the water is cold; wear a thermal layer and bring an extra jacket for after your lesson.
Mind the tides
Ask your instructor about local tide windows; lower tides can expose sandbars and change where you paddle out.
Practice ocean etiquette
Give paddlers priority, signal your intentions, and follow your instructor’s guidance to keep the lineup safe.
Full wetsuit
Keeps you warm in cold Pacific water and extends your time in the surf.
