The first day begins with the road unfurling over the Tizi n’Tichka pass, Atlas peaks sliding away as the land opens toward ochre kasbahs and palm-lined valleys. By late afternoon you walk the alleys of Aït Benhaddou, its mud-brick towers holding the light like folded maps, then continue past rose gardens and fortified villages into the Dades valley where a kasbah guest house awaits.
