A cold morning light cuts across the road as the minivan climbs out of Tirana; mountains gather like a moving wall and the air sharpens. By midmorning you’ve passed Shkodër, traded city noise for stone roofs and a narrower road that winds higher until Theth appears—a scatter of gray houses, a steeple, and the river that seems to dare you downstream.

Moderate fitness: comfortable walking for 3–5 hours total each day, able to manage uneven terrain and short climbs.
Plan on about 4–5 hours each way depending on traffic, road conditions and a stop in Shkodër; the last stretch is narrow mountain road.
Older and active children can manage the walks, but infants and very young children may find the drives and uneven trails difficult.
The water is very cold; brief dips are customary for the brave, but many visitors prefer to admire the spring from the shore.
