The Tempisque River has long supported Guanacaste’s cattle ranches and artisan communities; waterways were vital trade and subsistence routes for pre-Columbian peoples.
Seasonal water extraction and agricultural run-off affect river health; stick to guided routes, avoid feeding wildlife, and support operators that follow local conservation practices.
