You meet at a compact office near the cable car in Dorf Tirol, the pine-scented ridge above Merano. A pilot runs through a quick kit check and, as the cable car climbs, the valley unfolds: orchards, crenelated castles, and the town shrinking into a mosaic. At takeoff the thermals wake beneath the wing, lifting you smoothly — the air feels deliberate, pushing you higher until the jagged Dolomitic ridgelines and vine-draped slopes spread out beneath you.
moderate.
1–1.5 hours.
Moderate fitness: able to jog a few steps at takeoff and stand through brief runouts; not suitable for those with serious back or heart conditions.
The operator does not fly passengers over 120 kg; you must declare accurate weight when booking.
No experience is needed; flights are tandem with a certified pilot who handles takeoff, flight, and landing.
Flights are weather dependent; the provider cancels unsafe flights and offers a full refund if canceled at least 24 hours before departure or in bad weather per policy.
You can bring a camera if properly tethered, but pilots normally record the flight and offer footage for purchase after landing.
Dorf Tirol grew around a medieval hilltop castle that monitored trade routes through the Alps; the village reflects both Tyrolean and Italian cultural influences.
Operators follow strict landing and launch practices to minimize disturbance; stick to marked access paths and avoid feeding wildlife to protect local ecosystems.
TirolFly operates guided outdoor trips and adventures with an emphasis on safety, stewardship, and memorable experiences.
