You push off together from a motel parking lot with a view of Quebec City across the river: the tandem answers to two steady pedaling rhythms, tires whispering on the island shoulder as the St. Lawrence dares you to look up. Low, rolling fields and roadside berry stands pass in a slow parade — orchards, old stone farmhouses, and a scattering of grapevines that smell faintly of sun-warmed earth.
