Takapuna OSCAR Holiday Programme: Laser Tag, VR & Escape Games for Kids

OSCAR Holiday Programme - Takapuna runs out of Thrillzone & Escape Quest in Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore, offering a compact, high-energy day camp that turns school holidays into hands-on play and problem-solving for kids aged 5–14. The site sits a short drive from Takapuna Beach and Lake Pupuke, so families can combine a day at the shore with supervised activity time inside.

What sets this holiday programme apart is its boutique, small-group format: rather than lining up dozens of children, each session breaks attendees into tight cohorts guided by experienced hosts. Rotating stations mix tactical laser tag and race-car simulators with immersive VR experiences and a choice of escape games — VR Escape, Outdoor Escape, or Indoor Escape — so every child gets active, creative, and social play. The daily rhythm is straightforward: morning and afternoon signing windows, four activity sessions, a longer lunch and relaxation period, and an optional extended session that lets caregivers finish work with peace of mind.

Physically, the program balances high-energy movement in the laser tag arena with quieter, brainy problem solving in escape games, which makes it useful for families that want both physical play and cognitive challenge. The venue’s indoor layout and climate control also mean sessions run rain-or-shine, a real benefit on Auckland’s changeable spring days. Hosts emphasize safety and inclusion, supervising gear transitions and guiding teamwork during timed escapes and tactical matches.

For visitors, Takapuna’s compact village feel and coastal parkland give parents plenty to do while kids are engaged: a coffee along Hurstmere Road, a walk on Takapuna Beach, or a loop around Lake Pupuke before pickup. The programme’s proximity to public transport and parking in the North Shore makes drop-off and pickup straightforward for day-trippers or families staying in central Auckland.

Practical notes: sessions are aimed at ages 5–14, run in small groups, and include a predictable schedule with sign-in times at 9:00 am and 11:45 am for the respective groups. Bring a packed lunch, a refillable water bottle, and comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting active in. If you need extra care, the optional add-on extends activities until 6:00 pm.

Staff maintain clear check-in procedures and group ratios that prioritize supervision, while emergency procedures are practiced and explained at arrival. Parents report easy communication and same-day updates when needed, and the optional late-session reduces logistical stress. Book early during school breaks — spaces fill fast in Takapuna's compact holiday calendar to secure spots.

OSCAR Holiday Programme - Takapuna is a smart pick when you want your kids active, social, and cared for in a compact, professionally run space on the North Shore — especially useful for visiting families who want a balanced day of beach time and supervised play.
