Adventure tips

Bring reef-safe sunscreenMany stops include shallow reef or tide pools—use reef-safe sunscreen to protect coral and your skin.

Wear closed-toe water shoesWalks along lava rock, black-sand beaches, and slippery viewpoints are easier and safer with reef or trail shoes.

Start early to avoid showersMorning light and calmer seas make for better photos and fewer rain interruptions on the windward and leeward coasts.

Respect sacred sitesMarae and temple areas are culturally sensitive; follow the guide’s instructions and avoid climbing on structures.

Recommended gear

Reef or water shoes: Protects feet on lava rock, reefs, and wet trails at beach and waterfall stops.
Light rain jacket: Trade winds bring sudden showers—pack a compressible shell for coastal rain.
Refillable water bottle: Keeps you hydrated in tropical heat and reduces plastic waste.
Camera with polarizing filter: Cuts glare on lagoon and waterfall photos for richer color and contrast.
