A cold breath of wind cuts over the moraine as you tighten crampons for the first time; blue ice glints ahead like stacked glass and the glacier seems to inhale and exhale underfoot. The short walk from the parking lot leads onto the terminal tongue of Sólheimajökull, where the guide sets a single line and you push into a landscape carved by movement and melt.
