Weather Conditions Weather greatly influences the surfing experience, shaping wave quality and the physical demands on surfers. In southern North Carolina, summer wind speeds average around 8 mph, though stronger winds can stir up more active ocean conditions. During public lessons, we maintain a 3:1 student-to-instructor ratio, even in windier or choppier conditions, with surfers rotating as needed. For those seeking personalized attention, explore our Private Surf Lessons. Lessons proceed in rainy weather, but lightning or thunderstorms will result in cancellation. If this happens, we’ll happily reschedule at a time that suits you, based on our availability.
