The light in Arusha thins fast; the city loosens as a private transfer climbs toward Kilima Punda and the sun begins its slow exit. Guests step off the vehicle onto a low ridge, the air cooling and the plain opening out. Mount Meru occupies the western skyline, a brooding volcanic cone that often wears cloud like a cap. On a clear night Kilimanjaro reads as a pale shoulder on the horizon, daring you to watch until the last color leaves the sky.
