Adventure tips

Bring a compact tripodSunset light requires longer exposures and HDR bracketing; guides can lend tripods but bringing your own ensures flexibility.

Wear grippy footwearTrails include stone steps and loose scree—sturdy shoes with good traction make moving between viewpoints safer and faster.

Pack warm layersTemperatures fall quickly after sunset at elevation; a windproof layer keeps you steady during long exposures.

Respect monastery rulesIf you plan to enter a monastery, bring modest clothing—shoulders and knees should be covered for both men and women.

Recommended gear

Compact tripod: Stabilizes long exposures and HDR bracketed shots during low light.
Wide and short-telephoto lenses: Wide lens for sweeping landscapes; telephoto compresses monasteries against the valley.
Sturdy hiking shoes: Good traction for stone steps and brief scree sections between viewpoints.
Spare batteries and memory cards: Cold and long shooting sessions drain power—bring extras to avoid losing the light.
