Experience breathtaking views at Cabo da Roca while enjoying sweet tunes, making this a perfect half-day escape.
Adventurous sunset lovers who want sand between their toes, salt in their hair and wine in their belly.
No trip to Portugal is complete without watching the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. The natural beauty of our country’s coastline is breathtaking on its own, but everything’s better with delicious wine and food. So come with us to watch the sky turn warm shades of gold with sand between your toes, salty hair, wine in one hand and a sweet soundtrack adding to the atmosphere.
We’ll pick you up in one of our legendary convertible jeeps and take a brief look at historic Sintra’s best sights and palaces before hitting our favourite forest tracks. These off-road, unmarked trails pop out on the coastline where we’ll see the westernmost point of Europe – the incredible cliffs of Cabo da Roca – and our sunset journey begins.
Our secret beach is a short hike away. The dirt hiking trail twists and turns along a steep route but it’s only about half an hour to get down to the sand. Make sure you bring proper shoes for this part! Flip flops/thongs/jandals/foot wedgies (or whatever you call those rubber-toe-shoes in your country) won’t make the cut.
Once we reach the soft, golden sand – just relax. We’ll set up a picnic spread of traditional Portuguese “petiscos” (that’s our word for tapas) stacked full of cheese, chouriço (chorizo), bread and other snacks. You can swim in the salty ocean, kick a ball on the sand, or just sit back with a few glasses of local wine and appreciate the stunning sunset. With stunning cliffs and rock formations, you might have 99 problems, but a beach ain’t one.
This is our most popular hiking experience for good reason. In one afternoon you can enjoy the best of Portugal’s stunning coastline, taste local Portuguese food and wine and go off-road in Sintra’s mysterious forests. Since it is only a half day, you can combine it with one of our morning cultural journeys, which explore UNESCO World Heritage Sintra palaces and more.
Stop one We’ll pick you up from Sintra Portela train station in our convertible jeeps. Look out for the famous and protected palaces and monuments as we drive through the historic village. We’ll stop along the way for the best of the photo moments, of course. Stop two Popping out from Sintra’s lush forests at the stunning coastline, you’ll see mainland Europe’s westernmost point – the beautiful Cabo da Roca cliffs and lighthouse. Stop three Hold on tight, we’re heading off-road to reach our secret beach. It’s a 30-minute hike down to the sand, so come prepared with proper shoes! At the bottom we’ll set up a picnic rug, sweet tunes and a spread of Portuguese “petiscos” including cheese, chouriço (chorizo), bread, wine and more. Stop four The next hour and a half will be over before you know it. Lace up those shoes and hike back up to the jeep. We’ll cruise down the coast as the last of the golden rays sparkle off the ocean and finish in the fisherman’s village turned upscale holiday hotspot of Cascais.
