Dawn leaks gold across stone as you climb the first ridge at Gubeikou — wind presses at your back and the wall’s crenellations throw long teeth-shaped shadows. The first day winds from village paths up into crumbling ramparts, delivering a sunset from West 5-Hole Guard Tower; the second opens on the restored sweep of Jinshanling and its dense line of watchtowers, where sunrise strips fog from the valley.
