You step from the bus into a cold, clear pre-dawn and a winding mule track that swallows light. Headlamps tether your pace as Bedouin guides set a steady rhythm, and the dark of Sinai splits into a pale horizon. By the time the sun edges up over ragged peaks, the summit of Moses (Jebel Musa) blooms orange—an austere, wide-angle view that makes the uphill hours feel purposeful.

The guided ascent and descent combined typically take about 4–5 hours (ascent from 2:00 a.m., summit for sunrise, descent by 7:00 a.m.), though total trip time including transfers is around 12–15 hours.
St. Catherine’s Monastery is an active religious site; access rules vary—recently parts of the interior may be restricted, but the compound and exterior remain viewable and historically significant.
The tour requires moderate fitness and is not recommended for travelers with serious back, heart conditions, or for pregnant guests; children may join but should be capable of several hours of walking.
