You step from a shuttle into a dark river hush and a sky that is already thawing from black to blue. A motorboat crosses the Nile to the West Bank; coffee steams in paper cups and the ground crew is already unfurling the balloon. The burner growls, fabric breathes, and within minutes you rise above fields, palms and the low ridges that frame ancient Luxor.
