You wake before dawn and the road unspools out of La Paz, the city lights shrinking as the Andes breathe around you. By 5 a.m. the bus drops you at a ragged rim of stone—the Valle de las Animas—where serrated columns and ochre spires rise like a fossilized skyline. The sun pushes through narrow gaps and the rocks throw long, theatrical shadows; the place dares you to keep still and simply watch.

Walks are short (about 1.5 hours total in the Valle de las Animas area) over uneven ground; they’re rated easy but altitude makes them feel harder.
