Discover the scenic beauty of Hood River aboard the private Summer Train ride with Mount Hood Railroad. This unforgettable journey combines history, stunning views, and outdoor adventure—all in one relaxing trip.
Select Days from Jun - Aug >> Fall Train starts in September
Embark on a breathtaking journey aboard the Mt. Hood Railroad, where you'll glide along the scenic Hood River, surrounded by lush forests and vineyards. Enjoy a delightful 45-minute layover to explore The Fruit Company and Mount Hood Winery, making this an unforgettable experience of nature and relaxation.
Leaving the valley floor you cross and ride along 3 miles of the lower main fork of the Hood River while navigating a 3% grade that takes you on one of only five switchbacks remaining in the United States with peek-a-boo views of Mt Hood, Oregon's tallest peak.
Before the train departs, there is a welcoming introduction in the depot, so we advise arriving at least 45 minutes before departure to allow ample time for parking and making your way into the depot for the pre-boarding entertainment.
We strongly encourage you to pre-pay for parking when making a reservation; this will save you time and make everything easier when arriving.
Sandwiches can be pre-ordered. Also, some food and drinks are available for purchase during the layover at The Fruit Company. In addition, you are welcome to bring your own snacks, drinks, and picnic lunch -- but you may not bring your own alcohol. If alcohol is purchased on the train, drinks may be limited to 1 per person (please be prepared to show ID).
All Seats are Individually Sold and are assigned by Mt. Hood Railroad according to your ticket type. Food is available for pre-purchase for all customer types.
Note: Since VIP, Premium, and Parlor have a table that seats 4, so if your group has fewer than 4 tickets, you might be seated with someone else to fill the table. If you want to ensure you don't share a table, please make sure the number of tickets equals a multiple of 4.
If you would like to be seated with another group, please book everyone under one reservation -- or put the first & last name of the group you want to sit with in the comment section when booking.
Parlor seating is the only option that can accommodate wheelchairs, so please select that option for pricing. Keep in mind, since this is a historical train, the width of the door is 30 inches. We have a lift, but unfortunately, we are unable to load or store electric wheelchairs. Also, wheelchairs will not fit through the bathroom doors, so please keep that in mind.
If anyone in your party needs a lift to board the train (such as use of walkers), please let us know in the comments when booking your reservation, so we can plan accordingly.
No Pets are allowed for health & safety reasons. Please don't put our staff in the uncomfortable situation of having to issue a $100 violation or refuse to let you board the train again after the layover in Pine Grove. It diminishes enjoyment for all involved.
Secure your private ride early as spaces are limited and popular during peak season.
Bring layers, especially during spring and fall, to stay comfortable during variable temperatures.
Enhance your experience by spotting local wildlife such as eagles and herons from the train.
Getting onboard prior to departure ensures you snag a prime spot with the best view.
The Mount Hood Railroad traces its origins back to the early 20th century, serving as a vital transportation link for timber and agricultural products.
The railroad actively participates in local conservation efforts to preserve the natural beauty of the Columbia River Gorge area.
Layer clothing to adjust to changing temperatures during your train journey.
