Adventure tips

Prioritize Colmar highlightsDecide before you go whether you want museums or just Old Town; two hours covers a walking loop of ~2–3 km but won’t include long museum visits.

Wear sturdy shoesCobblestones and short flights of steps in castle and village centers make stable footwear essential.

Carry small changeMany village shops and markets prefer cash for small purchases and cellar tastings.

Pace wine tastingsTaste responsibly — limit samples if you’ll be walking between sites and want clear-headed views and photos.

Recommended gear

Comfortable walking shoes: Provides support on cobbles, short climbs and stairs in villages and at the castle.
Light daypack: Holds water, purchases, layers and a map without weighing you down.
Weather layers (light jacket or rain shell): Variable weather in the Vosges and village shade makes a packable layer useful year-round.
Reusable water bottle: Staying hydrated reduces fatigue during walking stops and limits single-use plastic.
