About Historic Sugartown, Inc.
Historic Sugartown, Inc., located in Malvern, Pennsylvania, preserves and interprets a restored nineteenth-century village. The site includes a General Store, an 1805 Quaker farmhouse (the William Garrett House), a Carriage Museum, and a historic book bindery. Historic Sugartown offers guided public tours, group and school tours, and a calendar of hands-on workshops focused on bookbinding, book restoration, and gold tooling.
Public tours run Saturdays and Sundays from May through November and last approximately one and a half hours. Group tour reservations and school tours provide tailored experiences that highlight daily life, commerce, and craft in nineteenth-century Chester County. The Carriage Museum also serves as an event venue, available for rentals and meetings, with flexible space for up to 100 guests and a board room that accommodates up to 16 attendees.
Workshops range from introductory bookbinding classes to advanced restoration and specialty techniques such as French Link Stitch, herringbone sewing, and gold tooling. Materials and tools are provided for most classes; specific age requirements are noted for each workshop. An experienced staff and dedicated volunteers guide hands-on instruction and historical interpretation.
Historic Sugartown partners with local schools and community groups to create educational programming that aligns with historical standards. Preservation of artifacts and accurate representation of historic practices are central to the organization's mission. Visitors and event planners can expect well-maintained exhibits, knowledgeable interpreters, and professional event support when booking tours, classes, or rentals.
