Experience the sights, smells, and sounds of a live working steam locomotive! Take an excursion behind Bock Lumber Company No. 1 as it puffs along the rails. Ride aboard this countryside excursion in one of our vintage cars. This unique Forney-type steam locomotive was built in 1908 and recently completed a multi-year restoration.
Our steam excursions depart from our depot in North Judson and travel through the rural farm country of northern Indiana. Listen for the whistle as we chug along our historic railroad corridor.
General seating is available on our steam excursions. You may choose from either caboose or open-air car seating when you arrive, subject to availability.
Please be aware that steam trains can be dirty! Our steam locomotive burns oil, but there is still plenty of smoke that is filled with particulates that can (and will) stain your clothing.
Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure to secure seating and get settled before the train leaves the station.
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained as the locomotive emits smoke and soot throughout the ride.
The museum prohibits pets, alcohol, and smoking onboard to preserve the historic equipment and ensure safety.
Choose layers and waterproof gear, especially for spring and fall excursions, as trains run regardless of weather.
The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum preserves the legacy of Indiana’s steam locomotive era, with the 1908 Forney-type engine as its centerpiece.
The museum operates with a commitment to preserving historical rail equipment while minimizing environmental footprint by careful maintenance practices.
Layers help adjust to temperature changes during the ride and while waiting outside.
