Intro To Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

This is a great class for first-timers and those looking to get a little more one-on-one experience on the water. Learn the essentials of SUP from equipment review, safety techniques and efficient paddling. We will spend the first 15-20 minutes on land before heading out talking about gear and basic paddling and self-rescue instruction. We work on paddle strokes, turns, and control before taking a mini tour of the area! No experience necessary but you must know how to swim and be comfortable on open water.

Examples of techniques learned during a typical class:

Paddle stroke: Forward, reverse, stopping, sweep strokes. Introduce draw strokes and bracing. Balance and foot positioning in varying conditions Basic rescue skills: Mounting the board from the middle or tail, “lowering your sail”, prone paddle Environment knowledge: Basic water flow, conditions and hazards plus an overview of desert weather patterns Total accumulative distance: 1-2 miles
