A dawn mist thins over flat plains as you step from an air-conditioned vehicle into the shadow of Sigiriya’s monolithic rock. The climb begins on carved staircases and metal walkways; the city below unfolds in small fields and ponds while the rock’s sheer face rises roughly 200 meters above the plain. Later, a short scramble up Pidurangala rewards you with a close-up view of Lion Rock catching late light, and by evening you’ll be on winding roads toward Kandy, where the Tooth Relic Temple pulses with ritual and history.
