About This Adventure

Embark on an exhilarating ATV ride through a stunning canyon near Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Experience lush greenery, unique pictographs, and breathtaking red rock formations. Navigate a moderately challenging trail with scenic views and enjoy the thrill of sandboarding or a roller coaster-like ride on smooth, sandy paths.

Invigorating ATV ride with Amazing Views

This beautiful canyon lies nestled just north of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. The head of the canyon features a natural spring that decorates the walls with lush greenery and water seeps. You will find plenty of shade along this trail, and at your destination, as the trail ends at a massive pictograph panel tucked inside a large alcove.

The route is moderately challenging and does involve some steep steps and off-camber footing. There is a very secure rock pathway with a guardrail that extends down along the side of the canyon wall. This is a beautiful section of trail but could be slow-going for some and requires good balance and self awareness.

The pictograph panel is one of the largest in the immediate area, featuring unique colors and depictions of figures that aren’t found anywhere else.

Enjoy beautiful painted red rock, sandstone bluffs, ponderosa pine trees and various amounts of other local vegetation along the hike. There are also some hanging gardens along the back wall of the canyon that sometimes feature water seeping down the walls.

The 4x4 track is smooth and sandy as it is a less traveled area and offers access to a section of sand dunes that makes for a fantastic roller coaster-like ATV ride or the opportunity to sand board.

Total hiking miles is .9 round trip and about 300 feet elevation change.
