A low sun cuts across the southern horizon as your 4x4 slides off the Ring Road and into a landscape still being written by fire and ice. Seljalandsfoss thunders ahead; you can walk behind its curtain and feel the water daring you to stand closer. Minutes later Skogafoss fills the valley with raw noise, its spray painting rainbows into the cold air. Higher up, a blue-white glacier tongue waits, cracked with crevasses and sculpted by wind. The day ends on Reynisfjara’s black sand, where basalt columns rise like the ribs of some buried creature and Atlantic waves push the shoreline back and forth with hungry insistence.
