A low, pale sun cuts through frosted branches as the group steps off the trailhead and into silence. Snow muffles footsteps; trees have become sculpted figures—tykky—hung with wind-driven rime that looks almost alive. The guide sets a steady rhythm and points out tracks in the powder as the skyline opens to a long, quiet view across the fell.

No prior snowshoeing experience is required; guides will teach basics. Participants should be able to walk several kilometers over uneven snowy terrain.
Snowshoes and poles, guide, pick-up from Ruka/Kuusamo area, campfire pancakes and hot berry juice, and national park fee are included.
Yes—during clear nights and solar activity the group may time outings for aurora viewing; however sightings are not guaranteed.
Wear moisture-wicking base layers, insulating mid-layers, a windproof outer layer, insulated boots, warm gloves, and bring a hat; avoid cotton.
The area retains Sami and Finnish Lapland motifs of herding and seasonal use; trails and stories reflect local winter survival skills.
Riisitunturi is managed to limit trail erosion and protect fragile tundra vegetation—stay on marked routes and pack out waste to reduce impact.
