Setting off from Caernarfon and travelling 25 miles, coast to coast, across the foothills of Snowdon to its destination beside the harbour at Porthmadog, The Snowdonia Star is one of our two premier services that offer a full day out on the beautiful Welsh Highland Railway.

Journey

  • Journey duration – approx. 6 hours 15 minutes including an interval break at Porthmadog to explore the bustling coastal town and enjoy lunch and a drink at Spooner’s Café-Bar (Harbour Station) before the train heads back to Caernarfon.
  • The journey is much enhanced by the Traveller’s Guide and the ‘FfWHR Explore’ app, which are available to pre-book and download respectively.

Catering

  • Picnic baskets and Children’s lunchboxes are available to purchase in advance.
  • Caffi De Winton (Caernarfon Station) is open from 09:00 – 17:00, serving breakfasts and light bites, with take away options available. Spooner’s Cafe / Bar open from 09:00 – 21:00, serving breakfasts, light bites and evening meals, with take away options available.
  • Cold drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, a range of snacks, including sandwiches, available on board the train.

Toilets

  • Small toilet cubicle on board train, with main toilet facilities available at both Caernarfon and Porthmadog stations.

Dogs

  • Dogs are allowed in standard class and require a ticket.
