You start on cool earth beside Seltún, steam coiling like a living thing from boiling mud pots as gulls wheel above. The guide outlines the route through the boardwalks, then you drive a short self-guided leg to Kleifarvatn where the lake’s surface hides a strange, effervescent world below.
