You step onto the van in downtown Seattle and the city’s hum thins as the coach crosses one of Lake Washington’s floating bridges. The Snoqualmie River soon catches your eye, a restless current that pushes toward the cliffs where the falls launch themselves 268 feet into a narrow gorge. From the upper boardwalk the spray writes short-lived rainbows; a short nature walk down to the lower viewpoint adds stairs, roots and the low thunder of water close enough to feel.
