Our Smart Start Kayaking Course provides a brief introduction to paddling a kayak and ensures that foundational skills and concepts are learned to ensure confidence and safety when exploring flatwater by kayak. Both first timers and paddlers with some paddling experience will find this course useful. This course will help you develop the good habits and foundation skills that will amp up your learning curve. Self-rescues, or how to get back in/on top of your kayak are covered as well. After this course you will be comfortable being on the water!
We are happy to provide you with a kayak (paddle and PFD included) to use during your class free of charge. This is particularly beneficial when you are just starting out and are still trying to figure out which kayak is right for you. If you already own a kayak it is advisable to learn and get used to your own kayak. However, we may require you to use one of our kayaks if we consider yours to be unsafe or inappropriate for the class.
