Slow Days on Minnesota Water: Pontoon Rental at Winjum's Shady Acres

Pontoon days at Winjum's Shady Acres begin with the small, practical ritual of a signed waiver and a quick safety briefing. Located at Winjum's Shady Acres near Faribault, Minnesota, United States, this pontoon rental turns ordinary summer hours into slow, intentional time on the water. The boats carry up to six adults (or a mix of children and adults) and are limited to a strict 1,100-pound capacity, so you’ll want to plan passengers and gear accordingly. What makes this rental special is its low-friction approach: flexible hourly to weekly bookings, life jackets supplied for everyone over 20 pounds, and a summer cabin-plus-pontoon deal that hands you a private week of boating for a single rate. The water here is typical of southern Minnesota’s glacial lakes - open expanses edged by marsh grasses and woody shoreline - perfect for slow cruising, shore-side picnics, and quiet wildlife watching. Expect to see great blue herons, waterfowl, and the occasional bald eagle riding thermals over the trees. Practical restrictions are clear and enforced: no dogs, no grilling on board, and infants are not allowed due to life jacket safety limitations. Operators require waivers and emphasize the 1,100-pound total weight limit, which includes cargo. That structure makes outings safer and simpler for families who want relaxed lake time without surprises. Float aunts and uncles, first-time boaters, and anglers who want access to quiet coves will find this rental ideal. Use the pontoon to reach fishing flats, scout a shoreline for late-afternoon sun, or anchor in a shallow bay to watch wetlands activity. The boat’s stable deck is beginner-friendly for children who meet the minimum weight guideline and for anyone who prefers steady footing over a kayak’s balance demands. Timing matters: early mornings and late afternoons bring the best light and the most active wildlife, while midday is prime for sunning and gentle swims off the back deck. Bring sun protection, secure coolers, and pack light to stay under the weight cap. Pay attention to local water conditions and weather; the peaceful day you planned can change quickly. Note the Summer Special: rent a cabin for a week and get the pontoon for the whole week for $850. Winjum’s supplies life jackets for anyone over 20 pounds, but infants are prohibited. Waivers are required before departure and the operator enforces rules to protect small-boat safety. There is no onboard cooking, and pets are not allowed. Plan accordingly and enjoy.
