The plane climbs and Queenstown shrinks: a grid of dark water, steely mountains, and roads that trace the lake like veins. At altitude the wind talks—sharp, urgent—then you step into the sky and the world rearranges. Freefall rips past at terminal velocity while snow-capped ridges and the braided fingers of the Shotover River hold steady below, daring you to look away.

No advanced fitness required, but participants should have no serious heart or back conditions and must meet weight/height limits
Minimum weight is about 40 kg (88 lbs) and maximum listed is 115 kg (253 lbs); guests over 95 kg are assessed by the Tandem Master. Minimum age varies by jump height—children may be allowed from age 6 with operator assessment and under-18s need written parental consent.
Jumps are weather-dependent; the operator will reschedule or refund according to their cancellation policy—plan for flexibility and book morning slots where possible for better conditions.
Typical freefall lasts up to about 60 seconds depending on exit altitude; canopy flight usually takes around 4–6 minutes back to the drop zone.
For safety, operators generally do not allow personal cameras during tandem exits; media packages filmed by trained staff or helmet cams attached to the instructor are offered instead.
The Wakatipu Basin was shaped by glaciation and long-used by local Māori for seasonal travel; European gold rush activity in the 1860s intensified settlement and modern access routes.
Stick to marked areas, pack out all trash, and follow operator guidance to minimize disturbance; aircraft and landing operations are coordinated to reduce wildlife impacts.
