A narrow track opens through the taiga and the cold breathes against your face as you push into untouched snow. Small group skis crunch in single file; the guide selects slope angles and clearings, and the forest seems to watch you pass. After a short transfer from Rovaniemi, the landscape shifts from town lights to a hush of pine and birch, and the rhythm of skins and gliding sets the pace.
