The boat slips from Sitka Harbor and the Sound opens like a moving map: glassy channels, rocky points, and gulls sketching the air. On a clear morning the water catches the mountains and the captain eases the throttle, pointing to a blow on the horizon. Humpback whales rise and roll; sea otters float like living buoys; bald eagles patrol the treeline as if checking the day’s schedule.
